El Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones (MTC) anunció el impulso de siete grandes proyectos ferroviarios, que en conjunto representan una inversión superior a los US$ 43.000 millones. Según el ministro Raúl Pérez Reyes, estas iniciativas buscan modernizar y optimizar el transporte de pasajeros y mercancías a nivel nacional, beneficiando a millones de peruanos y potenciando la competitividad del país.
Entre los proyectos más destacados figura el Ferrocarril Lima-Ica, que demandará cerca de US$ 6,500 millones y se ejecutará bajo la modalidad de Gobierno a Gobierno. Con un recorrido de 280 km, reducirá el tiempo de viaje de cuatro a solo 2,5 horas, alcanzando velocidades de hasta 200 km/h para trenes de pasajeros y 100 km/h para trenes de carga. Asimismo, el Ferrocarril San Juan de Marcona-Andahuaylas, con una inversión de US$ 8.200 millones, recorrerá 560 km e impactará positivamente en las regiones de Ica, Arequipa, Ayacucho y Apurímac.
La cartera de proyectos también incluye el Ferrocarril Lima-Barranca, valorado en US$ 4.400 millones, y otros tramos estratégicos como Hidroeléctrica-Quillabamba, Barranca-Trujillo, Cajamarca-Lambayeque y Chancay-Pucallpa. En total, se agregarán más de 2,800 km de infraestructura ferroviaria a la red existente de 2,000 km, mejorando la conectividad y reduciendo costos logísticos, tiempos de viaje y la brecha de infraestructura ferroviaria en todo el territorio nacional.
