El nuevo Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez, ubicado en el Callao, iniciará operaciones el 1 de junio tras una etapa de prueba que comenzará el 15 de mayo. Durante esta “marcha blanca”, un reducido grupo de aerolíneas internacionales trasladará el 1% del tráfico total —unos 700 pasajeros diarios— para detectar posibles fallos operativos antes de la apertura oficial.
Según Juan José Salmón, gerente general de Lima Airport Partners (LAP), el proceso de incluir solo vuelos de origen y destino, sin conexiones nacionales, para facilitar la logística. Algunas aerolíneas migrarán completamente al nuevo terminal incluso antes del 1 de junio. Para esta fase, LAP ha previsto incentivos y medidas de contingencia, incluyendo traslados internos si los pasajeros no son informados adecuadamente sobre el cambio.
La transición requerirá un cierre total de operaciones por 12 horas desde las 11:59 pm del 31 de mayo, tiempo en el cual se trasladarán aeronaves, personales y equipos al nuevo terminal. Las aerolíneas reprogramarán los vuelos afectados e informarán a los pasajeros con anticipación.
El antiguo terminal no será desactivado por completo. Se planea reconvertir sus espacios en oficinas, centros de salud o zonas comerciales, mientras que la plataforma seguirá siendo útil para mantenimiento y aeronaves privadas. Además, firmas logísticas internacionales han mostrado interés en establecer un centro de distribución en el nuevo aeropuerto, consolidando su rol como hub regional.
