El Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones (MTC) informó que el ambicioso proyecto ferroviario entre Lima e Ica, con una inversión de 6,500 millones de dólares, estará operando en el año 2032 y tendrá la capacidad de transportar aproximadamente 40,000 pasajeros cada día.
El director de Gestión en Infraestructura y Servicios de Transportes del MTC, David Miranda, explicó que “la ejecución de un proyecto como este dura aproximadamente 6 a 7 años. Podríamos estar hablando de tener el expediente técnico terminado en 2027 y la obra concluida en 2032 o 2033”. La línea ferroviaria, que abarcará 280 kilómetros, contará con una locomotora y ocho vagones dispuestos en formaciones de 580 asientos por tren, lo que permitirá transportar hasta 1.400 pasajeros por recorrido.
El proyecto, que ya ha obtenido viabilidad y se considera rentable socialmente, se estructurará con dos vías que incluyen 47 kilómetros de puentes y viaductos, 32 kilómetros de túneles y 15 estaciones estratégicamente ubicadas en puntos clave como Villa El Salvador, Lurín, Chilca, Punta Negra, Asia, Mala, Cerro Azul, Cañete, Chincha Alta, Chincha Baja, Guadalupe, Pisco, el Aeropuerto de Pisco, Paracas e Ica.
Además, se prevé que el ferrocarril se beneficiará a unas 12 millones de personas, de las cuales 6 millones se verán favorecidas directamente por la ubicación a lo largo de la vía y otros 6 millones por el arrastre del motor de la economía regional, impulsando sectores como el turismo, la gastronomía, la agroindustria y otras actividades con alto potencial.
Otro aspecto destacado del proyecto es el interés internacional, ya que 11 países —entre ellos Alemania, Austria, Canadá, Corea del Sur, España, Estados Unidos, Francia, India, Japón, Reino Unido e Italia— han mostrado interés en participar en la ejecución de esta obra, lo que subraya su relevancia estratégica para el desarrollo del país.
Esta iniciativa forma parte de la estrategia del MTC para potenciar la infraestructura de transporte y mejorar la conectividad regional, impulsando el crecimiento económico y social en las zonas que conecta.
