Ante las extensas colas y la desorganización que enfrentan los turistas para adquirir entradas al santuario histórico de Machu Picchu, el alcalde Elvis La Torre propuso implementar doble turno de atención y ampliar de dos a cinco las ventanillas presenciales de venta de boletos.
La propuesta llega tras un reportaje de Cuarto Poder que evidenció graves deficiencias en el sistema de venta, afectando la imagen internacional del destino turístico más emblemático del Perú.
“Se podrían atender turnos de 8 a.m. a 1 p.m. y de 2 a 7 p.m. No se necesita presupuesto, sino voluntad”, declaró La Torre en entrevista con Canal N.
Acusaciones al Ministerio de Cultura
El burgomaestre responsabilizó directamente al Ministerio de Cultura por la inacción frente a una situación que, asegura, tiene soluciones técnicas y logísticas ya planteadas. “Existe infraestructura y personal, pero falta decisión política. Enviamos propuestas, pero no hay respuesta”, señaló.
Actualmente, Machu Picchu cuenta con solo dos ventanillas de atención, lo que genera colas de más de cuatro horas. La Torre también criticó que el proceso implique dos colas distintas: una para obtener el turno y otra para realizar el pago, lo que duplica el malestar.
Tecnología ignorada y espacios sin uso
Desde la municipalidad, se propuso instalar pantallas interactivas que agilicen el proceso sin intervención humana. Estas podrían financiarse con parte de los más de 200 millones de soles que genera Machu Picchu al año. Además, denunció que existe una sede de más de 700 m² del Ministerio de Cultura en Aguas Calientes que no se utiliza para la atención al público.
Corrupción, aforos y promesas incumplidas
El alcalde también alertó sobre casos de manipulación en boletos y aforo, actualmente bajo investigación fiscal. En cuanto a los aforos, recordó que las restricciones impuestas desde la pandemia continúan afectando la experiencia del visitante: “Antes de 2020 no había límites. Ahora tenemos cupos agotados hasta octubre”.
En la última sesión de la Unidad de Gestión de Machu Picchu (UGM), el Ministerio de Cultura no cumplió con entregar el nuevo protocolo de venta presencial comprometido para el 30 de junio, y pidió prórroga hasta el 10 de julio.
Rechazo a declaratoria de emergencia
Aunque gremios turísticos solicitan declarar emergencia en la zona, el alcalde considera que no se trata de un problema legal sino de gestión: “Respetamos las opiniones, pero esto se resuelve con voluntad y eficiencia”.
Finalmente, advirtió que el prestigio de Machu Picchu está en riesgo. “Algunas revistas internacionales han dejado de recomendar nuestro destino. No podemos permitir que el ícono del turismo peruano caiga por ineficiencia”.
